Dual Language

Meyerland PVA is proud to offer its students an advanced immersion Dual Language and Advanced Placement Program for speakers of Spanish and English. 

The Dual Language program works to provide our students an opportunity to develop and improve their Spanish language skills whilst also challenging them to immerse themselves in a bilingual academic environment. The Meyerland DualLanguage program prides itself on three pillars which include: Bilingualism and Biliteracy; Socio-cultural Awareness; High Academic Achievement. Students within this program will expect to take 2 classes every year, a Spanish Class and their Social Studies class in Spanish. 

The Dual-Language students at MPVA have the opportunity to perfect their verbal and written spanish communication with the assistance of our Spanish teachers throughout all three grade levels. They will develop formal spelling, gender and agreement rules, as well as sentence structure and understand how it may differ from the English language. Throughout their Spanish course, they will have the privilege of obtaining between 3-4 high school Spanish credits. If the student is placed into AP Spanish by their 8th Grade Year, they will be offered the AP Spanish Exam that grants a student 1 college credit.

The Dual Language Social Studies class is taught using Spanish material and instruction and is fully taught in that language. Students can expect to take their 6th Grade World Cultures, 7th Grade Texas History, and 8th Grade U.S. History in Spanish. This class allows students to gain appreciation for different cultures and develop confidence in their own language outside of what is traditionally a hispanic-based language and culture. 

Meyerland invites all Spanish-speaking students to apply for our program, regardless of their cultural background. We are honored to have cohorts that come from diverse communities and all share the excitement of embracing this language. There are many benefits that come from enrolling in a Dual Language program aside from becoming bilingual. Our students improve memory, attention, and multitasking skills as they learn to balance two languages. Our goal in this program is to prepare students for advanced classes that require critical thinking, diverse environments, and high academic performance.
